Mystery
I saw this on the stairway of my apartment building last month:

I thought it was a drop of peanut butter, but I'm not sure.
To riff on Weschler again: He writes of how some of the dark, late Rothkos, of which this one from 1969 is a good example:

remind him of the (literally) never-before-seen photographs of the earth taken during the first human landing on the moon, which took place around the same time:

Anyway, that brings it back to my "drop" of (possibly) peanut butter. The picture reminds (hopefully) of both Rothko and deep space, though it is of neither, by the simple act of presenting the unknown and mysterious, and by reminding us both how close, and how far, it is.
