The proof is in the pudding, and last night's results at Sotheby's proved my own words: I know nothing about the auction market. As the NY Times reports, the dreadful late Picasso I lambasted, as well as the flat Munch, both sold at or above their hefty estimates.
However, I was right about my favorite -- the small "Geranium" by Matisse:

Perhaps the biggest bidding war of the evening was for Matisse's “Geranium,” a rare 1910 still life in a rich palette of greens that was expected to fetch $2.5 million to $3.5 million. Six bidders kept going tenaciously, and the painting ended up selling to the Acquavella Gallery in Manhattan for $9.5 million.What's the saying about blind squirrels and acorns?
